First of all, I’d like to thank you for having that interest to know more about me. That is, I’m assuming you are here on this page because you want to know more about who I really am. In case you were redirected to this page by accident, I am very sorry to bore you but I hope you go check out my blog posts! Tee-hee!
Who am I?
So, here I go. I’m Danica. One curious day in my pretty much ordinary life, I searched for the meaning of my name and found out that it meant “Morning Star”. In astronomy, it is a star that appears just before sunrise. From that day forward, I understood why I love to wait for the sun to rise every time I’m near horizon. It may also be the reason why I love to look at the sky and see it filled with stars. I love it because I feel like I’m one of them and it’s great to feel like I belong.
Anyway, I grew up as a very timid girl. I used to be a loner when I was in grade school. My classmates knew me as someone who just sit down in one corner to study. Yup, that was me back in grade school. I am a Math geek. Yikes! Up until high school, I used to be known as the “Math Wizard”. A part of me is ashamed of not having that wonderful childhood experience ~ having a lot of friends, sleepovers and everything. But I will never regret that I valued my education.
My father wanted me to become either a doctor or a lawyer but since I love Math, my mother let me pursuit a degree in engineering. If you’d ask me, I love Math but to be an engineer was not my dream job. Back then, I wanted to be either an architect or an interior designer. Finishing college, I was always wondering about the what ifs. But later on, I’ve realized that maybe it was what was meant for me because if I didn’t enroll for an engineering course, I would’ve not met my one true love.
My boyfriend and I were batchmates in college. We were classmates in some of the subjects but it was only during the board exam review that we got the chance to know more about each other and fall in love. We officially became lovers after we pass the board exam. And oh, he’s a topnotcher! (Proud girlfriend, tee-hee!)
Why I Travel?
Since childhood, I’ve always wanted to travel. My father gave me this book entitled “Circling the Globe“. It’s a book with a summary of the history and culture of all the countries in the world. Everyday, I read a page and then I came across France. I don’t know why but since then, I’ve started to dream about Paris and then eventually, dreamt about travelling the world.
Growing up, we haven’t had family vacations now and then. We’re not that kind of family. We had vacations only I think for less than 10 times in my entire life. My father is a captain of a ship but we never had the chance to go with him on his nearly a year of duty onboard. Somehow, I envy my father as he’d already been to almost everywhere in the world. But I told myself, I don’t have to envy him and instead, make him as an inspiration.
He was also the first one to inspire me to take meaningful photographs. If I remember it right, I was about 12 years old when he gave me my first camera. What he said back then were the same words I always repeat to myself whenever I capture a photograph. He told me that whenever I take a picture of something, make sure it tells a story. Since then, I fell in love with photography.
Anyway, going back I could say that my childhood dream to travel is literally just a childhood dream back then. Not until I had this 16 hours road trip to Ilocos, Philippines where I started to dream about travelling again. I can’t explain why but I enjoyed watching the green vast fields on the way to our destination, watching random people we passed by and going back home made me feel lonely. I guess I just want the feeling of being away and free and I believe that life on the road would give me the greatest wisdom I could ever get in my entire life. From then on, I had this urge to travel again but during that time, I was in college and taking time off to travel is kinda hard especially because we’re on a quarterm and summer vacation is unknown to us. Luckily, I had the opportunity to join the events of the organization I signed up to. We have this induction at least twice a year and we often held them in resorts about 3-4 hours away from Manila. So for all those years in my college life, I only had the chance to travel a few times.
Now that I’m working, I make sure to use all my vacation leaves to take off from work. And fortunately, I have my boyfriend to join me wherever I want to go. We started travelling since the start of our relationship. We’ve been to quite a number of places in the Philippines already and started planning for our upcoming travels around the world. Our first out-of-the-country together was in South Korea and we fell in love. So in the coming years, we plan to go back and hopefully, save up for the other countries in our bucketlist.
Why I Blog?
I decided to put up a blog because in as much as I want to keep the memories of our adventures, I also would like to share it to the world. It’s an irony that a very timid girl opens her private life to strangers in the internet. But lately, I’ve come to realize that life is best experienced when shared. And as weird as it may seem, I really feel the need to document life because I know one day, someone from the future will read it. Someone who needs an inspiration to see that life is beautiful. That life is a beautiful adventure.
P.S. Leave no trace but memories.
